May Series

May 3rd – Guilty Pleasures is an acoustic band from the musical heart of North Carolina, steeped in our State’s strong musical tradition but not afraid to venture into uncharted territory. Band members John McNeal (guitar) Greg Cordell (mandolin, fiddle), Nat Smith (bass),Meredith Nye (fiddle) and Tim Stambaugh (banjo, dobro) have played everything from country to funk to punk to jazz (which perhaps explains how they can pull off segueing from an 18th century ballad into The Monkey Song from Disney’s “The Jungle Book”) before returning to their musical roots.

May 4th – SALUDOS COMPANY takes the audience on a musical tour that features traditional, contemporary, and original music from Latin America and the Caribbean. This amazingly versatile trio keeps toes tapping.

May 10th – The Durham Ukulele Orchestra is a genre-busting ensemble whose love for music is rivaled only by the love they have for their favorite little instrument. Skillfully blending selections from the great American songbook, the best of classic rock, and a bit of the indie-alternative scene, the Durham Ukulele Orchestra has fashioned a sound that is both unique and foot-stompingly entertaining.

May 11th – Faith Bardill is the 2018 Carolina Country Music Awards “Female Artist of the Year” Faith Bardill has performed over 400 shows in 100+ cities. Genre is a modern country, classic country, and classic rock.

May 18th – Pagan Hellcats comes together as a band dedicated to enjoying the making of original music that sticks in your head and maybe your heart, music you may go home humming and hearing some days thereafter. Our musical roots are as eclectic as the origins of the 6 players in the band – New York City, Chicago, Louisiana, NC, and Nebraska. The songs reflect traces of rock and roll, country blues, soul, alt-country, jazz, and even the American Songbook. Our vocal harmonies weave songs that tell stories of love, politics, and the human ego with lyrics that appreciate irony, satire, and the unexpected.

May 24th – Doug Prescott Band – Although there are global influences, this is truly Americana, with a root of blues rock, with influences from Little Feat to The Neville Brothers, and from The Eagles to The Mavericks.

May 25th – Alone Again Or Band – Live music from the 60’s and early 70’s. The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead and many more. Come sing along and dance to the coolest music from the Peace & Love Generation! See you there!

May 31st – Diali Cissokho has been playing traditional West African music for as long as he can remember. While his greatest love is the kora, a 21-stringed African harp that is at the heart and soul of much West African music, he is also a passionate singer, songwriter, and percussionist. Crossing cultural boundaries with a wide range of sounds, from explosive dance rhythms to soothing hypnotic grooves, Diali brings an unparalleled virtuosity and unique personal style to this respected traditional art form.
